Patriotic Places to Add to Your Bucket List

Patriotic Places to Visit for Your Bucket List

(LibertySons.org) – Making a bucket list is one of those things we should all do. Write out a list of things we want to do, then set about accomplishing them. The only problem is, a lot of the time, they can be pretty frivolous. Yes, bungee jumping sounds exciting, but is it really going to be a significant milestone in your life?

Travel the Country

You can add some meaning to your bucket list by using it as a chance to learn more about our country and what makes it special. There are some great patriotic destinations every American should visit at least once. Here are some meaningful places to add to your list.

  • Mount Rushmore. One of the USA’s most iconic landmarks, this South Dakota mountain displays the sculpted faces of four of our greatest presidents. It attracts more than two million visitors a year and is set in some truly stunning landscape.
  • Pearl Harbor. The December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor provoked the US into joining the Allies in WWII, the war that made this country a superpower. Today, Pearl Harbor is home to the wreck of USS Arizona, whose destruction marked the beginning of the war for America. She’s guarded by the guns of USS Missouri, on whose deck the Japanese surrendered in 1945. Both ships deserve a visit.
  • Freedom Trail. Boston’s Freedom Trail takes in 16 historical sites in a 2.5-mile walk. Most of them are connected to the Revolutionary War, including the Bunker Hill Monument, Faneuil Hall, and the grave of Paul Revere. Others include the historic Old Corner Bookstore and USS Constitution. The Freedom Trail is a walk through America’s struggle for independence that every patriot should experience.
  • Statue of Liberty. A gift from France, the first ally of the US, the Statue of Liberty dominates New York Harbor. The 151-foot copper sculpture has welcomed millions of people to America and is still one of the nation’s most striking sights.
  • Arlington National Cemetery. Freedom isn’t free, and Arlington is one of the most poignant reminders of that fact. Located on what used to be the grounds of General Robert E Lee’s house, it’s been the last resting place of US military dead since the Civil War. A visit to the cemetery, which now holds more than 400,000 graves, honors our heroes and reminds us of the price they paid to preserve the nation.

There are many more patriotic places to visit in the US, but these five are among the most significant. Between them, they span our history as a nation, commemorate our greatest heroes and stand for the values that make this country unique.
