Report Highlights Biden’s Memory Issues

(LibertySons.org) – A special counsel’s report into President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents has recommended that no action should be taken against him. However, while it keeps him out of court, Robert Hur’s report could still be a devastating blow to Biden’s hopes of re-election. Essentially, the report says Biden shouldn’t stand trial –- because he isn’t competent to.

Hur Report Slams Biden

On February 8, special counsel Hur, who was appointed in January 2023 by Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate Biden’s alleged mishandling of classified documents that were found in a cardboard box in his garage, released his report on the case. Although there’s no doubt Biden had secret papers from his time as vice president in an unsecured area of his private home, Hur didn’t recommend any criminal charges against him. However, this wasn’t because he didn’t think there was a case to answer. It was because he didn’t think Biden a jury would convict him.

In the hard-hitting report, Hur –- a former District Attorney for Maryland under the Trump administration –- said Biden had “wilfully” hung on to classified documents but said the president would “likely present himself to a jury … as a sympathetic, well-meaning, [older] man with a poor memory.” He said that’s how Biden had presented himself during his questioning and gave some shocking examples.

According to Hur, under questioning, Biden couldn’t remember when he’d been vice president. On one occasion, he asked, “When did I stop being vice president?” Later, he asked if he’d held the post in 2009. Hur also said Biden couldn’t remember, “even within several years,” when his son Beau died, and added that when the president talked about Afghanistan, “his memory appeared hazy.”

Claims Spark Reactions

Senior Democrats quickly hit back, accusing Hur of “trashing” the president’s reputation. Biden’s personal attorney, Bob Bauer, called the observations about his memory “inaccurate and inappropriate” –- even though Biden, in a car crash press conference responding to the report, forgot that Mexico isn’t beside Gaza. Republicans also responded quickly to the report, highlighting Hur’s comments as evidence of the president’s mental decline.

The House Republican leadership released a joint statement saying Hur’s accounts of Biden’s failing memory were the most “disturbing” parts of the report. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) warned that the “unnerving” revelations could damage the US’s reputation, while Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) said that if Biden can’t remember being vice president, “Does anyone believe he’s running the country now?” Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) thinks it’s time for the 25th Amendment to be used to remove the president from office. After what Hur revealed, a lot of people are likely to agree.
