Political Commentator Alice Stewart Found Deceased

(LibertySons.org) – A prominent Republican commentator on CNN and veteran of several political campaigns has died at the age of 58. Alice Stewart is being remembered for something unusual in today’s political climate — being kind.

Alice Elizabeth Stewart was born in March 1966 in Atlanta. She obtained political science and journalism degrees from the Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia. Her first journalism job was as a weekend anchor for a local TV station, KARK, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Her political career started when she worked as a communications director for Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. She then took on that role for him in both his presidential campaigns. Others she worked with included Rick Santorum, Michelle Bachmann, and Ted Cruz.

Stewart was also a member of the Institute of Politics Senior Advisory Committee at Harvard. In a statement according to the Harvard Crimson, she was remembered as “a loyal supporter and a wonderful guiding influence.”

IN 2016, Stewart joined CNN as a Republican commentator during a contentious presidential election season. Fellow CNN anchor Jake Tapper called her death an “unspeakable loss” and noted that even though she was most definitely a Republican through and through, she had friends on both sides of the political spectrum and believed in treating opponents with kindness and respect. He added, “She was all about civility and all about kindness.”

A self-described close friend of Stewart, Ashley Allison is a Democrat commentator who had an intense on-air disagreement with her regarding the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Afterward, Stewart invited her out for a drink, and the two became friends, even training for marathons together.

Philip Elliott of TIME magazine wrote about Stewart, “Where others in her orbit chased…viral moments, Stewart advised candidates and causes to work with facts.”

The body of Alice Stewart was found outside in Belle View, Virginia. A cause of death has not been determined at the time of writing, but authorities do not suspect foul play but instead suspect a medical event.
