5 Year-Old Girl SHOT In Bronx Gang Crossfire

A 5-year-old girl wounded in a brazen Bronx gang shootout exposes how years of soft-on-crime policies have turned American streets into battlegrounds for violent thugs.[1][3]

Story Snapshot

  • Federal and local indictments charge gang members with daylight murders and shootings, including the 2021 killing of 16-year-old Nisayah Sanchez in Belmont.[1][3]
  • Recent 2025 indictments target Courtlandt Over Everything and ABG Crips for seven shootings, some near the Bronx courthouse in broad daylight.[3]
  • NYPD videos capture gang crossfire injuring innocents, like the May 13, 2026, incident wounding a young girl caught in the middle.[5]
  • Perpetrators like Ahmar Garcia and Raheem Patterson faced state time for violence but now federal charges carrying life sentences.[1]
  • Pattern demands tougher enforcement over excuses about “root causes” that ignore gang accountability.[1][3]

Federal Charges in 2021 Bronx Gang Murder

U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York unsealed an indictment on December 23 against Ahmar Garcia, a/k/a “OB,” 25, and Raheem Patterson, a/k/a “Rah Rah,” 28, both from the Bronx.[1] Prosecutors charged them with murder in aid of racketeering for killing 16-year-old Nisayah Sanchez on September 29, 2021, in Belmont. The shooting occurred in broad daylight as retaliation in a gang war between the MacBallers, Drillys, and 800 YGz alliance against the rival Sev Side, Third Side, and Reyway groups. Sanchez, a rival member, died after Garcia and Patterson sneaked up and shot him.[1]

The indictment also covers an attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon in the same incident, which injured another victim.[1] Patterson faces additional charges for an attempted murder on December 2, 2021, in Manhattan, where he shot at a rival gang member. Both defendants transferred from New York State custody, where they served sentences for other violent crimes. Murder in aid of racketeering carries a mandatory life sentence or death.[1]

2025 Indictments Target Courtlandt and ABG Crips Violence

Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced indictments in 2025 against 19 alleged members and associates of Courtlandt Over Everything and ABG Crips gangs for at least seven shootings.[3] Incidents included a broad daylight attack on August 20, 2025, near Bronx County Hall of Justice, where defendants shot at rivals after a court appearance.[3] Another shooting hit Alexander Avenue on September 13, 2025. These cases highlight gangs treating neighborhoods as war zones, endangering civilians.[3]

Nine of the 19 defendants were youths, underscoring how gangs recruit teens for violence. Prosecutors detailed targeted hits on rivals, with many occurring publicly. Such patterns persist despite prior busts, fueling calls for stricter youth crime laws and rejecting lenient approaches that let predators back onto streets quickly.[3]

Pattern of Daylight Shootouts Endangering Innocents

NYPD documented a surge in Bronx gang shootings since 2020, with precincts like the 44th, 46th, and 48th accounting for over 40 percent of citywide gang-motivated incidents.[1][3] Broad daylight shootings tripled from pre-pandemic levels, often tied to drill rap feuds and territory fights. Video evidence shows crossfire like the May 13, 2026, shootout wounding a 5-year-old girl.[5]

Earlier cases mirror this: 20 gang members indicted for 15 West Farms shootings in 2025, mostly public. Federal convictions, such as Bronx gang member Jose Caban for paralyzing an 18-year-old and shooting on crowded streets, prove ongoing threats. Community demands for “resources” ignore indictments proving deliberate gang choices, not just poverty. Trump administration priorities on law and order align with federal prosecutions dismantling these alliances before more innocents suffer.[1][3]
