(LibertySons.org) – The White House is speaking out against Trump’s recent comments on the conflict between Israel and Hamas. According to video captured during a campaign event on Monday, October 13, the former president praised the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah and criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing to adequately prepare for Hamas’ surprise attack.
Trump also vowed to expand his prior travel ban targeting Muslim-majority countries, including individuals from Gaza. “I banned refugees from Syria…Somalia — very dangerous places,” he said, adding, “…We’re going to expand each and every one of those bans.”
The former president was referring to the ban on Muslims entering the United States he first proposed in 2015 before stepping into office. Trump later formalized the restrictions with Executive Order 13769, which initially targeted seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
The order faced immediate legal challenges from a number of entities, including the ACLU, who argued that it discriminated against Muslims. Further revisions to the order removed Iraq and added Chad, North Korea, and Venezuela to the list. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of this amended version in 2018.
White House spokesperson Andrew Bates labeled Trump’s campaign trail comments from Monday “revolting and dangerous” during a one-on-one interview with NBC News. He said the former president lacks credibility and insinuated that Americans could not trust him to protect the US from the threat of terrorist attacks.
Bates also dismissed the idea that travel bans are an effective way to reduce the risk of persons of concern entering the country. He pointed to strict national security vetting protocols and suggested that they effectively determine whether people who enter the US “have ties to terrorist organizations.” The spokesperson also said that President Joe Biden was more than happy to rescind Trump’s “Muslim travel ban” because hate had no place in America.
It was almost immediately clear that Trump’s representatives disagreed with this take. A spokesperson by the name of Steven Cheung reportedly scoffed at the Biden administration’s decision to label Executive Order 13769 a Muslim travel ban. He suggested that it shows “how stupid the Biden people are,” calling them “Truly moronic.”
