(LibertySons.org) – Former President Donald Trump took a break from the campaign trail while in Atlanta to get some Chick-fil-A. The GOP presumptive nominee made time for photo ops and mingled with workers during the unexpected visit to the restaurant, which he called a “great American franchise.” He also paid for a round of chicken and milkshakes.
The MAGA leader bought 30 of the frozen treats while at the Chick-fil-A location, which he gave away to his staff and other customers. He asked if everyone there was enjoying themselves as he posed for pictures and interacted with workers. He also inquired about employees’ pay, asking if their jobs at the restaurant would make them wealthy. Indeed states that Chick-fil-A pays an average of $13.56 to about $20 per hour.
Trump added that Chick-fil-A was closed on Sundays, prompting his videographer to joke that the franchise sold “the Lord’s chicken.” The former president agreed with the sentiment, also noting that the food there was good.
Chick-fil-A has long been the center of heavy controversy over its policies. It initially received backlash from the Left over news that the company enabled discrimination against people who identified as LGBTQ+. The Huffington Post reported on an interview in 2012 in which a restaurant executive stated that gay marriage brought “God’s judgment on our nation.”
More recently, according to The New York Times, Chick-fil-A has taken heat from the Right for going too “woke.” The company reportedly joined the ranks of Target, Bud Light, and other progressive entities over efforts to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. Conservative customers have taken issue with the company’s official DEI statement, which claims the company fosters a culture of belonging for everyone.
Trump didn’t stay in Atlanta for long. He’s been hard at work connecting with voters and raising money. A recent fundraiser in Palm Beach, FL, brought in over $50 million for his campaign and the GOP.
