Senator Lindsey Graham Included on Putin’s Terror List

( – Russian political activist Alexei Navalny recently died while in prison near the Arctic Circle. While Russian authorities claim his death was the result of “sudden death syndrome,” the world over isn’t buying that conclusion. Several leaders around the world blame his death on Russian President Vladimir Putin, as Navalny was his outspoken opponent. One US senator who spoke his mind is now on the Russian terrorist list.

On February 20, the New York Post reported that Putin added South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham (R) to his “terrorists and extremists” list. The lawmaker responded to the designation on social media, stating, “There goes all my rubles!” According to the NY Post, Graham followed up by publicly taunting Putin, stating his Russia was a “state sponsor of terrorism under US law.” The SC legislator predicted 2024 would be a “bad year for Putin’s Russia,” listing several measures he believes are on the way. Those included expanding NATO and additional aid for Ukraine.

The initial incident that seemed to set Putin’s sights on Graham was his recent interview on “Face the Nation.” According to POLITICO, the SC lawmaker praised Navalny, calling him brave. Graham said the political activist “had to know he was going to be killed by Putin,” adding that’s indeed what happened. Graham went on to agree with something President Joe Biden (D) allegedly said — Putin would “pay a price” if anything happened to Navalny. The lawmaker said he believes that the cost should be a designation against Russia as a “state sponsor of terrorism.”

Tass reported that former environmental activist Yevgenia Chirikova was also added to the register, and POLITICO recently reported that two US-based journalists also made the list. They all join at least 13,600 other people on the registry who could all face consequences in Russia, hence Graham’s quip about losing his rubles. Based on his responses, the SC lawmaker didn’t seem too concerned about the new designation.
