(LibertySons.org) – President Joe Biden has a well-known long-term history as a gaffe machine, going back to his early days as a Senator. Yet, one GOP politician, a former White House staffer who served both the Obama and Trump presidencies, is calling Biden’s mental and physical competency to serve another term into question.
On November 20, Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), a former White House physician, told “Fox and Friends” hosts about his longtime concerns regarding Biden’s ability “to do the job.” Jackson has gone on record multiple times lodging his concerns about the POTUS’s waning capabilities, including before the 2020 election and soon after his inauguration.
Jackson, speaking to Fox host Steve Doocy, talked about watching video clips of Biden during his first campaign in 2020 and comparing it to current campaign footage. The Congress member said he could see how much the president had visibly degraded in four years.
Jackson said he believed people surrounding Biden “are inappropriately encouraging him to continue to run” to secure their own positions despite the obvious danger to the nation. The lawmaker characterized the current presidency as “a disaster” due to the global wars and the economy.
In May, Jackson authored a Congressional letter after Biden announced his intention to run for a second term. The letter, signed by the Texas representative and 61 other House Republicans, called for the president to submit to a cognitive assessment to prove his fitness to continue in office and reassure the American people.
Republican primary candidate Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador, has also advocated for any politician aged 75 or older to undergo cognitive testing. In fact, she committed to trying to make it law should she become president in 2024.
Yet, GOP members aren’t the only ones leveling concerns and criticisms regarding Biden’s capabilities. Former Obama aide Davis Axelrod has suggested that the president should consider dropping out of the 2024 presidential race based on a New York Times/Siena Research poll showing Trump leading Biden in battleground states.
The survey reveals voters’ concerns about the incumbent’s age and cognitive abilities compared with his probable opponent, Donald Trump. Axelrod pointed out that while the poll is still a year ahead of the elections, a strategic “miscalculation” on the Democrats’ part could result in a Trump win.
