(LibertySons.org) – There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding former First Lady Melania Trump over the past few weeks, especially after she was missing from holiday photos posted to social media. However, it turns out that she had a very good reason for her absence. Sadly, her mother, Amalija Knavs, recently passed away after a bout of illness.
Mrs. Trump broke the news in a post on X, formerly Twitter that her mother had passed away on Tuesday night, January 9. She celebrated her, saying Knavs “always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity” and that the family “will miss her beyond measure.” Former President Donald Trump also posted about his mother-in-law’s death on Truth Social, saying she was “an incredible woman.” He had informed the public that Knavs was “very ill” when Mrs. Trump failed to join him at a New Year’s Eve bash.
Knavs was born Amalija Ulcnik on July 9, 19145, in Austria, where her parents were a red-onion farmer and a seamstress. In 1964, she went to work for a children’s clothing factory, where she created “patterns for mass production.” She married her husband, Viktor Knavs, a chauffeur and motorcycle salesman, in 1966, and the couple went on to have two daughters, Ines and Melania.
The Knavses became American citizens in 2018 while Trump was in office. Melania reportedly sponsored them in an immigration process known as “chain migration,” something that drew a lot of controversy at the time due to Trump’s stance on it. They spent time at the White House during Trump’s presidency and moved to Mar-a-Lago when he left office.
At the time of her death, Knavs had reportedly been ill for a while, though it’s not clear what she died from. She was 78.
Knavs is survived by her husband, their two daughters, and her grandson, Barron Trump.
