(LibertySons.org) – Former President Donald Trump has not indicated who he will choose as his running mate for 2024. A few names have been floating around, and the presumptive GOP nominee himself hinted that he might soon reveal his choice, but his campaign made it clear that any assumptions about the pick are pure speculation. Some supporters believe they have a say in who Trump chooses.
Recent reports claim that several corporate leaders and wealthy donors to the Trump campaign have been making suggestions about who he should pick as vice president. Billionaire and former chairman of Marvel Entertainment Ike Perlmutter reportedly told Trump that he should pick Representative Elise Stefanik (R0NY). Fellow wealthy businessman Rupert Murdoch apparently offered his two cents as well, suggesting Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) for the position.
Several real estate billionaires have reportedly been pushing South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (R) for the role, in addition to Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison—who also happens to be a GOP megadonor. Third parties apparently familiar with the exchanges reported all of these alleged conversations with Trump, but none of them commented on the assertions.
Some other contenders who appear to be on the shortlist include Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R). Although South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) was also assumed to be among the top picks, she likely shot herself in the foot after admitting to shooting her puppy and goat years ago.
Another person possibly on the list is Senator JD Vance (R-OH), but wealthy Trump donors could be worried about that choice because of his stance on stringent business regulations and higher tariffs.
Given Trump’s ongoing legal bills, the former president’s campaign is struggling financially, making wealthy donors all the more important. Still, it’s unclear if he will take the corporate leaders’ and wealthy donors’ suggestions when making his choice.
