Actor Andre Braugher, Famous for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Dies at 61

(LibertySons.org) – Adored by fans and colleagues alike, Andre Braugher, 61, beloved for his roles in “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “Men of a Certain Age,” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” died on Monday, December 11, after a brief illness, according to his publicist, Jennifer Allen. The award-winning classically trained actor enjoyed an exceptional 35-year career that included theater, film, and television projects.

Tributes poured in on social media outlets from coworkers. Kyle Secor, who worked with Braugher on “Homicide: Life on the Street,” posted on Instagram that the actor “elevated everyone’s game on the set.” He counted himself fortunate to have shared time with Braugher.

Terry Crews played Lieutenant Terry Jeffords on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” while Braugher played Captain Raymond Holt. On Instagram, Crews lamented that his friend and coworker was gone far too soon. He thanked Braugher for eight “glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent,” and for the wisdom, advice, and kindness he always imparted.

Shonda Rhimes posted a tribute on Instagram mourning Braugher’s loss as an actor and as “a warm and kind soul.” Several people highlighted the remarkable quality. Audra McDonald worked with Braugher on “The Good Fight” and posted a memory on Instagram, calling him “generous, brilliant, intelligent and hilarious.” She said she would sorely miss him and sent love to his family.

Joe Lo Truglio left a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, talking about his time working with Braugher on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Yet, Lo Truglio’s greatest sadness was for his colleague’s wife, Ami, and their three sons. He shared how Braugher flew back to New Jersey from Los Angeles every weekend to spend time with his family, and he said the actor always knew his role as a father and husband was the most important of his life. Lo Truglio joined others in mentioning Braugher’s melodic voice, described as dulcette, smooth, rich, and bass.

In addition to fans, work colleagues, and a legacy of film, stage, and television classics, Braugher leaves behind his treasures: his wife of 32 years, Ami Brabson, and their three sons, Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley.
