(LibertySons.org) – When President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the race on July 21, he included in his letter that he fully endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, to replace him on the ticket. This didn’t come as a surprise to many, however, some Democratic Party leaders were allegedly shocked to hear him support any candidate so quickly. In fact, one of the most influential and outspoken of them reportedly wasn’t ready for the announcement. He didn’t come forward immediately with his backing but waited five critical days before giving Harris his support.
On Friday, July 26, Barack and Michelle Obama called Harris to publicly and officially endorse her candidacy for president and to replace Biden on the ticket. This is huge for the VP since the Obamas are Democratic royalty. But why did the former president delay his support?
According to an exclusive report from the New York Post published on July 24, an unnamed source close to the Biden family claims Obama doesn’t think Harris can beat former President Donald Trump in November. The source went on to say, “Obama knows she’s just incompetent … She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her.”
Another alleged concern for Obama is Harris’s ability to debate Trump. The source says she will “put her foot in her mouth about Israel, Palestine, Ukraine. She’s going to say something really stupid.”
Other sources in the Post article claim Obama was “shocked” by Biden’s endorsement of Harris and that he was instrumental in getting the president to remove himself from contention. They also say he had someone else in mind to lead the ticket, namely Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
While Harris has wide-reaching support, she is not the candidate yet. The DNC and the delegates will have the final say, possibly in a special roll-call vote as early as August 1.
