(LibertySons.org) – On July 13, President Joe Biden announced on social media his intention to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. He quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to run instead, and other Democrats did the same. The push plunged the VP into the spotlight, causing many to look into her record. They found some concerning trends.
On July 22, Adam Andrzejewski from the OpenTheBooks substack wrote that the turnover rate in Harris’ office since 2021 is 91.5%. The report stated that, while the White House turnover rate was also high — 77% — it paled in comparison to the VP’s numbers. OpenTheBooks reportedly used disclosures from the US Senate to determine her high percentage. The watchdog group said it had to rely on that particular report because other means to gather the information failed. It filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, which was denied, and tried to retrieve the information directly from the VP’s office — again denied.
The substack reported that only 4 of the 47 staffers employed in the vice president’s office in 2021 remained on staff in March. In addition, the report stated half of Harris’ staff left their positions over the past year. The source said the VP’s office has been described as a “revolving door” since Harris took the position.
After Harris’ chief spokesperson and senior advisor Symone Sanders stepped down at the end of 2021, news sources highlighted another high-profile staffer who had left the VP’s office — her communications director, Ashley Etienne. At the time, Harris’ director of press operations and deputy director of the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs were also expected to leave. They did. An unnamed source told The Hill in 2021 that nobody was happy in the office, and there was a “constant fear of backstabbing,” possibly explaining the departures.
It’s unclear how the reported turnover and climate in the VP’s office would affect her in the 2024 presidential campaign if she officially becomes the nominee.
