(LibertySons.org) – Democrats have repeatedly attacked the Supreme Court since former President Donald Trump appointed three Conservative justices to the court. The court recently rejected Trump’s bump stock ban. The governor of New York had a lot to say on the matter.
On June 23, Governor Kathy Hochul (D) appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” to discuss the recent decision. The Democrat accused the justices of being “so out of touch” that they are “literally living in the 1700s.” She claimed the conservatives on the high court issue decisions based on what America’s “Founding Fathers said about guns,” but at the time they were alive, the country only had muskets. Hochul went on to say there were no bump stocks or machine guns back then.
The governor is angry over the court’s conservative majority’s decision to strike down the Trump-era bump stock ban. The accessory replaces the factory stock on rifles and then harnesses the power from the kickback to “bump” a shooter’s shoulder and trigger finger. It rapidly fires as long as the user keeps their finger on the trigger and maintains pressure.
Trump banned bump stocks after public pressure following the Las Vegas mass shooting in 2017 that claimed the lives of 60 people. Over 800 suffered injuries, including more than 400 who were hit by gunfire and shrapnel.
Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for the majority in the Garland v. Cargill decision and emphasized that lawmakers could have passed a law enacting a ban on all weapons capable of firing at high rates of speed but have failed to do so. That doesn’t mean the ATF has the right to extend the automatic weapons ban to the accessory.
The Trump campaign responded to the SCOTUS ruling by saying it “should be respected.”
Hochul disagrees. The governor’s criticism of the law echoes that of other Democrats. Senate Republicans recently blocked an effort by their liberal colleagues to ban the accessory.
