(LibertySons.org) – In early March, former President Donald Trump posted an endorsement of his former advisor, Brian Jack, who is running for a seat in the House to represent Georgia’s Third Congressional District. Four other people were campaigning to win the primary on the Republican ticket. In May, the Peach State held its primary, but none of the candidates earned a majority of the vote, so there was a run-off the following month.
On June 18, Jack participated in the run-off against fellow Republican Mike Dugan. The Trump-endorsed candidate came out with 62.6% of the vote to Dugan’s paltry 37.4%, easily clinching the GOP nomination. In November, he will face Maura Keller, who beat her Democratic opponent, Val Almonord, in the regular primary. District Three covers a section of the western part of Georgia, next to and below Atlanta, down to just above Columbus.
After Jack’s victory, he thanked God and Trump for the win. He said the former president’s backing was instrumental in him gaining such support in the district, proving that Trump’s endorsement power was as strong as ever. The former US leader has endorsed 255 people for their primaries in 2024, and 65% have won. While that number is down from his previous record of closer to 100%, it’s still a majority.
The seat has been held by Representative Drew Ferguson (R-GA) since 2017 and is considered a Republican stronghold. The Georgia lawmaker decided to retire from Congress after a controversy following former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) ousting. While many hard-right GOP House members wanted to install Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) as speaker, Ferguson changed his mind and voted for Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA). The backlash was harsh and included protests at his home and death threats for him and his family.
