(LibertySons.org) – President Joe Biden recently challenged former President Donald Trump to multiple debates — one in June and the other in September. The presumptive GOP presidential nominee accepted the invitation and agreed to the terms — no audience, and the participants must meet certain polling thresholds. Days after agreeing to the debates, Trump said he wanted to add another stipulation.
Several Republicans echoed Trump’s demand that Biden take a drug test before the presidential debates. For one, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) told Fox News that Biden’s performance during the State of the Union (SOTU) was “surreal,” raising the question if the president took an “artificial stimulant” to help him perform that evening.
Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) agreed. But the White House denied the implication that Biden had taken any kind of drug before the SOTU. White House Spokesman Andrew Bates said what the GOP lawmakers were seeing during the speech was “confidence,” not drugs.
Scott made the same exact claims Trump made on the campaign trail just days prior. On May 17, the former president spoke to a crowd at a fundraiser in Minnesota and said he would demand Biden take a drug test before the debates.
Trump said he didn’t “want him coming in like the State of the Union,” claiming the president was “high as a kite.” The presumptive GOP nominee even indicated Biden may have took drugs before speaking to the nation, stating the US leader was “all jacked up” during the address. Trump then said he “want[s] a drug test.”
Bates said the calls for a drug test were just proof that the Republicans are “intimidated” by Biden. He said the president was succeeding where they failed “across the board,” adding that “it tracks” that the GOP members are mistaking “confidence for a drug.”
It’s unclear if Trump’s accusations against the president rise to the level of slander.
