(LibertySons.org)—One thing is certain: when former President Donald Trump speaks, people listen, especially when it comes to his endorsements. In fact, according to Ballotpedia, as of April 29, several of the candidates he has endorsed who have run in elections have won. Soon, one of his endorsed candidates will be facing a primary opponent to fill the seat left by retiring Mitt Romney.
Utah voters will hold their primary elections on June 25. For Republicans, one of the major goals is finding the perfect candidate to challenge Democratic hopeful Caroline Gleich as she seeks to replace Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT). Romney has held the seat since 2019 but announced his retirement in September 2023.
Former President Trump announced his endorsement on the Truth social media platform on April 27. He told his nearly seven million followers that Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs (R) was “100% MAGA.” The former president noted that Staggs was a successful businessman who had faithfully served his constituents for the past six years and knew how to “secure” the nation’s borders, “grow the economy,” and “create jobs.”
Trump also explained that Staggs would protect law-abiding citizens’ Second Amendment rights, support the nation’s military services and veterans, and unleash America’s energy sector. The former president concluded his remarks by giving the mayor his “Complete and Total Endorsement,” assuring his supporters that Staggs would be a “GREAT Senator” who would never disappoint his constituents.
Later that day, GOP delegates met for Utah’s Republican Convention and selected Staggs as Romney’s replacement. Although he received the official endorsement of more than two-thirds of the delegates, Newsmax recently reported that Stagg is still competing alongside nine other Republicans hoping to secure the party’s nomination during the state’s June 25 primary election.
Staggs’ strong support from national figures like Trump bolsters his chances of securing the party’s nomination. Likewise, his performance during straw polls conducted during Republican county conventions indicated he had a significant edge over his opponents.
