(LibertySons.org) – Controversy surrounded the 2020 presidential election with claims of election fraud and cheating that culminated in the insurrection on January 6, 2021. However, before that event, some were hard at work trying to ensure that former President Donald Trump stayed in the White House. One of the schemes involved groups of “fake electors” set on sending electoral votes from their respective states to favor Trump in opposition to the will of the people.
On April 24, an Arizona grand jury indicted 11 people in the alleged scheme, and three of Trump’s former confidants don’t seem far behind. Trump’s former attorney, Rudy Giuliani, former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and political strategist Boris Epshteyn could also soon face charges.
In December 2020, a group of Trump supporters gathered at Arizona’s GOP headquarters to sign a document claiming to be the Electoral College set of electors representing Arizona — they weren’t. The defendants even videotaped the signing and posted it on social media.
The certificate stated they were the electors, giving Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence all 11 electoral votes from Arizona. However, President Joe Biden won the state by 10,457 votes. The actual electoral votes already arrived in Washington, DC, on the day the fake electors signed the fraudulent document — December 14, 2020.
The 11 people listed in the indictment do not include Meadow, Giuliani, or Epshteyn. They have yet to be served. Other expected indictments include former White House official Mike Roman and former Trump Attorneys Jenna Ellis, Christina Bobb, and John Eastman. Trump himself is named as an unindicted co-conspirator, but it is unclear if he will be indicted in the future.
The charges against the defendants include conspiracy, fraudulent schemes and artifices, fraudulent schemes and practices, forgery, changing vote or elector by corrupt means or inducement, tampering with a public record, and presentment of false instrument for filing — all felonies.
