(LibertySons.org) – In November 2022, former Representative Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) lost his seat in the House of Representatives. The lawmaker was plagued by scandals during his short tenure in Congress and reportedly moved to Florida following his departure from politics. Recently, an eyewitness believes she saw Cawthorn involved in an accident with a police officer.
On April 15, Alethea Shapiro posted a statement on his X/Twitter account about an encounter with an aggressive driver in a black vehicle while driving southbound on Interstate 75. The post included a clip from the scene.
Shapiro said the driver was tailgating her and zoomed past. Shortly afterward, traffic came to a halt as that same driver apparently rear-ended a police officer. Shapiro said she pulled over to the side of the road when she witnessed the driver of the black vehicle roll into view. She believes that person was Cawthorn. The video she posted showed a man in a wheelchair interacting with an officer on the scene.
The highway patrolman was reportedly rubbing his neck after the collision. The woman offered him some water and asked if he was okay — he was. While Shapiro was not a witness to the actual accident, she said the officer seemed “quite stunned” and “kept reaching for his neck.” Lt. Greg Bueno stated the patrolman was taken to the hospital for treatment after sustaining “minor injuries.”
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed there was an accident involving one of its police officers and a 2021 Mercedes on I-75 that afternoon. The driver was described as a 28-year-old man from Cape Coral, Florida. After losing the 2022 NC primary, Cawthorn moved to Cape Coral. The former lawmaker is also a 28-year-old man in a wheelchair.
Neither Cawthorn’s attorney nor the Florida Highway Patrol would confirm or deny the former politician’s involvement in the accident that day. However, his lawyer told Fox News Digital that Cawthorn sent his prayers to the officer.
