(LibertySons.org) – Another member of the Proud Boys who was an active participant in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot just learned his fate — but not before he verbally attacked the judge presiding over his case. The man received a six-year jail sentence for his part in the siege, with his punishment likely lengthened by his conduct in the courtroom.
The Guardian reports that Marc Bru, a resident of Washington state, traveled to Washington, DC, on January 5 ahead of former President Donald Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally, which was planned for the following day. He, along with several other members of the Proud Boys, marched with the angry mob to the Capitol Building, where he and a few others were first to force entry into a restricted area. He rammed a barricade into police officers, made his way to the Senate gallery, and took selfies with other Proud Boys, posing with hand signs that indicated his involvement with the right-wing extremist group.
Bru also planned another attack, which he dubbed “January 6 2.0,” to occur several weeks later in Portland, Oregon. Prosecutors said he hoped to make the second government take-over attempt even “more violent” than J6.
Representing himself, his attorney on standby, Bru repeatedly disrupted his sentencing hearing. At one point, the defendant called the presiding judge, James Boasberg, a “clown.” Boasberg even threatened to have the defendant removed from the courtroom if his conduct didn’t improve. They noted a seeming lack of remorse for Bru’s actions, responding to his statement that he’d “do it all over again” even if it meant a 100-year sentence.
The Hill states that Bru was convicted in October 2023 of two felonies and five misdemeanors for civil disorder, insurrection, obstruction of an official proceeding, rioting, and unauthorized entry into the Capitol Building. He’s one of over 1,200 people who’ve received charges for crimes related to the J6 event.
