(LibertySons.org) – On January 15, Iowa voters headed to the polls and cast their vote in the state’s Republican caucuses. Former President Donald Trump was the overwhelming winner with 51% of the vote, beating second-place runner-up, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, by nearly 30 points. Following a poor showing, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy dropped out of the race. He immediately endorsed Trump, who had just days prior slammed the candidate for running a deceptive campaign. However, the former president seemed to do an about-face after winning and had positive words about Ramaswamy.
Ramaswamy appeared in Atkinson alongside Trump, where he announced he was endorsing the former commander-in-chief in a short speech. Afterward, Trump sang his praises, saying Ramaswamy is “a fantastic guy” and “He’s got something that’s very special” because he entered the race virtually unknown and outlasted several big-name Republicans.
Then, Trump added, “He’ll be working with us for a long time,” to which the crowd cheered, and some even shouted “Veep!” indicating that Ramaswamy may be the vice president nominee. Trump hasn’t elaborated on his statements, and there’s speculation as to whether he meant Ramaswamy would be part of his campaign team or his presidential team should he be reelected.
The entrepreneur said he’s not opposed to running as Trump’s vice president, telling Fox News Host Jesse Watters that he “want[s] to serve this country any way [he] can.”
Ramaswamy finished with only 8% of the vote at the Iowa caucuses despite having visited all of the state’s counties, 99 of them, twice. He ended up in fourth place behind former US Ambassador Nikki Haley, who had 19.1%. Ramaswamy has also urged both Haley and DeSantis to drop out of the race and throw their support behind Trump. Neither has expressed any signs that they are planning to drop out of the race yet.
