(LibertySons.org) – Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, who dedicated her life as a partner, wife, mother, advocate, activist, and volunteer, understood the inherent importance of service to others. On Sunday, November 19, Rosalynn Carter, 96, died, leaving behind her husband and partner of 77 years, former President Jimmy Carter.
The former president called his wife his “equal partner in all [his] accomplishments.” She died in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family, according to a statement from the Carter Center. She had entered home hospice care on November 17, just two days before she passed.
Bipartisan tributes poured in for the former First Lady. Former President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he and his wife, Melania, joined America in mourning. He characterized Rosalynn as “a devoted First Lady, a great humanitarian, a champion for mental health, and a beloved wife.” He noted her service to the nation with gratitude, highlighting several points throughout her life when she dedicated herself to improving the lives of others.
Former First Lady Melania Trump posted on X, formerly Twitter, reminding readers of Rosalynn Carter’s impact “not only as First Lady but as a wife and mother.”
Another former FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, posted a lengthy but personal tribute showing her admiration for Carter’s advice and for how she used the office of First Lady to accomplish “profoundly meaningful […] groundbreaking work” in recognizing, seeking help for, and shining a healing light on “those struggling with their mental health.” Obama expressed her gratitude for Carter’s impact on her and the nation’s elderly, caregivers, volunteers, and more.
In his post, former President Barack Obama quoted the last paragraph of his wife’s tribute, expressing that the lives one touches are the true measure of legacy, before linking to her post in deference.
President Joe Biden reminisced that Carter had “walked her own path” as First Lady, but she inspired the nation and the world to follow her in kindness and compassion. He thanked the Carter family “on behalf of a grateful nation” and the innumerable people her work helped to live better, fuller lives.
The family has published funeral ceremony plans on the Rosalynn Carter Tribute page. She leaves behind her beloved husband, former President Jimmy Carter, sons Jack, Chip, and Jeff, daughter Amy, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
