(LibertySons.org) – When Hamas attacked Israel on Saturday, October 7, they didn’t just cause more than a thousand deaths. The militant group took hostages, too, and some of those hostages were Americans. Additionally, there were more citizens trapped in the country. Frustrated with the way the Biden Administration is handling the situation, one Republican representative decided to take matters into his own hands.
Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL), a decorated US Army combat veteran, is no stranger to rescuing Americans. He flew to Afghanistan in 2021 to help those who remained stranded after the disastrous withdrawal, and he just helped get several Americans out of Israel after it was attacked.
Mills said he couldn’t sit around and do nothing. Shortly after the news about Israel broke, the Florida representative was on a plane to Jordan. From there, he crossed into the Jewish state and immediately got to work. He said politics doesn’t play a part in his rescue missions, and though he contends he’s doing what the Biden Administration should be — “they have no plan, they have no strategy to get these Americans out,” he said — Mills doesn’t care about the political affiliation of those he brought home. He simply said, “These are Americans.”
The US Army veteran spent two days in Israel, where he helped coordinate busses — that he paid for — to take Americans into Jordan, where they were able to book flights home. While not all flights to and from Israel have been canceled, the prices have skyrocketed, making it nearly impossible for those stranded to book a trip home.
On Thursday, October 12, the US State Department announced it was arranging charter flights to transport those trapped in the country to Europe. Those flights began the following day, but the US Embassy in the country sent out the message that scheduling everyone’s departure would “take some period of time.”
