Woman Lands $100 Million After Politician’s Death

(LibertySons.org) – Silvio Berlusconi, 86, the founder and head of the conservative Forza Italia party and former Italian prime minister, died on June 12 of leukemia after a protracted illness. Notably held the post three times during his life. The businessman and politician married twice and had three daughters and two sons ranging in age from 56 to 34 as well as grandchildren, but he spent his last years with 33-year-old Marta Fascina as his partner. His will, made public on Thursday, July 7, provided €100 million (more than $109 million) for Fascina, who is deeply involved with running Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party.

The couple never formalized the union through marriage, but they did celebrate their relationship in 2022 with a ceremony that was neither religious nor official. Fascina remained devoted during his illness and attended to him during his final months.

The tycoon also left €100 million to his brother, Paolo, and €30 million to his friend and political and business advisor Marcello Dell’Utri, rumored to have had connections to organized crime, according to reports from Bloomberg. The will divided his business holdings between his two eldest children, Marina and Pier Silvio, distributing the remaining assets equally among all five children.

The BBC noted that many praised Berlusconi as a politician for his business knowledge and popular appeal, but critics called him to task for ignoring the law and becoming involved in scandals as diverse as bribery, tax fraud, and inappropriate scandals. Despite convictions and becoming mired in situations that other politicians would have found embarrassing, Berlusconi rallied time and again to rise to the nation’s leadership position.

A number of politicians paid tribute to Berlusconi. Italy’s current Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, called her predecessor “one of the most influential men in [Italy’s] history.” Defence Minister Guido Crosetto bid his friend farewell and said, “An era is over…” noting the “huge void” the political leader’s death leaves for many.

Foreign leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin, paid tribute and sent condolences. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre also noted Berlusconi’s passing and mentioned his work in advancing better relations with the US.
