White House Comes for MTG During a Bad Week for Her

(LibertySons.org) – Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) had a busy week between a recent dust-up with Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on the House Floor and a Freedom Caucus vote on Friday, June 23, to decide whether the group will retain her in their membership. Then, on Tuesday, June 27, the White House hammered Greene for voting against a bill that provided a $1 million federal public safety grant, announced in her Floyd County hometown paper, the Rome News-Tribune.

In a statement, White House spokesperson Robyn Patterson told The Hill that the passage of the American Rescue Plan, which Greene and every other House Republican voted against, allowed President Joe Biden to proudly support law and order, reduce gun crime, and “keep cops on the beat in Floyd County – and across the country.” She added that the president remains committed to providing law enforcement with needed resources, unlike Republican lawmakers who’ve stripped budget resources through debt ceiling negotiations.

Greene called the White House statement “ignorant.” She contended that many of the crimes her constituents faced resulted from Biden’s failure to address the crisis at the Southern border. She listed her points, blaming the administration for

  • Releasing an influx of more than 5 million illegal aliens into the US
  • Allowing as many as 85,000 trafficked children to go missing in the system
  • Failing to stop Mexican cartels from smuggling Chinese-manufactured fentanyl into the country, killing more than 100,000 Americans last year, including her constituents.

In light of the challenges her community faces because of the border, Greene lamented, “The flippant comment from the White House would be laughable if it wasn’t so ignorant.”

The Georgia lawmaker has historically maintained a mutually contentious relationship with the White House and Biden. She prepares and introduces articles of impeachment regularly, and the president has mocked her as recently as March.

Although the Freedom Caucus vote on Friday went against Greene, group representatives haven’t clarified what that will mean going forward. Yet, amid the uncertainty, a quote relayed to The New York Times in January from someone close to Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) may comfort Greene. After she helped him win the gavel, he told a friend, “I will never leave that woman. I will always take care of her.”
