WH ‘Shifting’ After Hunter Fallout

(LibertySons.org) – The House Committees on Oversight, Ways, and Means, and the Judiciary have each independently continued their inquiries into Biden family corruption, Hunter Biden’s business dealings, and President Joe Biden’s potential involvement. After testimony by key figures and the release of a disputed piece of evidence by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), committee chairs James Comer (R-KY), Jason Smith (R-MO), and Jim Jordan (R-OH) as well as House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) noticed a shift in White House messaging.

The four lawmakers wrote a letter to Stuart Delery, the White House counsel, on July 20, noting a clear change in rhetoric and demanding answers to a series of five questions. The Congress members wrote that President Joe Biden and White House spokespeople had repeatedly claimed the president didn’t know about and wasn’t involved in his son’s business dealings, nor did he discuss business with him. Yet, on June 23, White House Counsel Office spokesperson Ian Sams released a statement saying, “… the President was not in business with his son.”

Sams’ statement came on the heels of IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley’s testimony to the House Ways and Means Committee about a July 2017 WhatsApp message from Hunter Biden to a Chinese business associate in which the younger Biden said he was sitting with his father and he demanded answers and a call regarding unfulfilled business dealings. Biden’s attorney, Christopher Clark, denied the senior Biden’s involvement, saying verifiable words and actions were solely his client’s “in the midst of a horrible addiction.”

However, Stefanik told the New York Post that the White House’s change in position, including Karine Jean-Pierre’s recent statement, remains “an indisputable fact” which the administration has refused to explain thus far.

The questions to which the lawmakers demanded answers included

  • whether the White House is admitting that the president knew about or participated in Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings,
  • how many of those deals the president might have known about,
  • to what degree, if any, the president involved himself,
  • whether the president received financial compensation
  • Whether the DOJ has opened an investigation based on Hunter Biden’s July 2017 WhatsApp message to the CEFC China Energy official, potentially implicating the president

The Congress members had requested a reply by July 27, stressing the importance of maintaining Americans’ trust in a presidency free from compromise by foreign interests. To date, the White House has not responded.
