Secret Service Inconsistent in Stance on Hunter Biden Weapon Scandal

( – An odd incident occurring in 2018 has snowballed into an inquiry by the US Secret Service. The situation involved the agency inserting itself into the affairs of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and Hallie Biden, the widow of the president’s other son, the late Beau Biden. After two expose reports by other members of the media brought attention to the matter, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to get to the truth.

The Biden Incident

Hallie Biden allegedly found a gun in Hunter Biden’s vehicle in 2018, during a time when she was dating him. She reportedly took the firearm because she was afraid he would “use” it, and threw the weapon in the garbage at a grocery store in Delaware. Upon learning about her actions, Hunter Biden demanded she gets the item back, but it was no longer in the place she had put it.

In October 2020, The Blaze broke the story, using information from an anonymous source. The person claimed the US Secret Service had been working behind the scenes on the case. The agents were allegedly trying to get the purchase records for the firearm.

The Delaware police told the publication they never found the firearm but did speak with both Bidens. They also referred the case to the state’s Department of Justice, so officials could decide if the incident warranted prosecution. There were no subsequent charges.

In March 2021, Politico put a spotlight on the odd involvement of the Secret Service in the matter. The publication said it would have been an interference in the Delaware State Police investigation for the federal agency to do anything with the case.

Anonymous sources close to the incident told Politico that agents contacted the gun store owner, Ron Palmieri. The man refused to provide the Secret Service with the requested gun-related paperwork.

In a statement to the publication, the Secret Service claimed no involvement by its agents.

Judicial Watch Inquiry

Judicial Watch became involved in an effort to uncover whether the Secret Service did insert itself into the Biden gun situation, and if so, why.

The agency apparently replied to the group’s request for information on April 2, 2021. The Secret Service said it had found records potentially related to the situation and was preparing to send them. But a second message from October 13, 2022, declared the last statement a mistake and insisted there was no information. On November 10, 2022, Judicial Watch said the Secret Service switched its story again by alerting the court it found data that might pertain to the case. The entity agreed to provide any pertinent information to Judicial Watch by January 9, 2023.

The back and forth by the Secret Service is concerning. Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton insisted the inconsistency makes the agency’s trustworthiness questionable and only enhances the need to ensure the public can see the records on the matter.
