Ron DeSantis Makes CANCER Announcement – Months After Wife’s Illness

(LibertySons.org) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has had a close, personal connection to fighting cancer. His wife, Casey DeSantis, battled breast cancer in October 2021, and the governor revealed his mother also suffered from the disease when he was a child. It’s hardly surprising, then, that the leader is using his position to inject more funding into cancer research. On May 17, the governor announced his 2022-2023 fiscal year budget, which sets aside $100 million toward finding a cure for and providing better treatment to cancer patients.

During his reveal, DeSantis mentioned his family was grateful for his wife’s high level of care and noted that he wanted to make similar resources available to all Floridians. State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo explained the funding may lead to discoveries that could serve the global community.

The funding will go to the Florida Consortium of National Cancer Institute Centers Program. Operating under the program are the University of Florida Health Cancer Center, the Moffitt Cancer Center, and the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The money will also support pediatric cancer research and grants for institutions that are not part of the program. The $100 million represents an increase of almost 60% over funding from prior years.
