(LibertySons.org) – The Supreme Court ended affirmative action in university admission through its six to three majority ruling on Students for Fair Admissions Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College on June 29. Justices Elena Kagan, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and Sonia Sotomayor dissented. Yet, in his concurring opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas singled out Justice Jackson’s dissent for repeated commentary. On Sunday, July 2, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), often referred to as AOC, ranted in response to a question from CNN’s Dana Bash asking about Thomas’s commentary on Jackson’s dissent.
Thomas characterized Jackson’s use of statistics and historical observations as a portrayal of “all blacks as victims,” a position he admitted he found “unfathomable.” Additionally, the senior jurist described the newest SCOTUS member’s opinion as “an insult” to people of any age seeking to “push through barriers” to celebrate their individuality and personal achievement.
When Bash read portions of Thomas’s opinion to AOC and then asked her to respond, she clearly struggled. She said she believed that what Thomas wrote “was profoundly disrespectful to his colleague.”
