(LibertySons.org) – Presenting only one side of an issue does not allow for free thinking and the development of different opinions, which is why the Founding Fathers created the First Amendment to the US Constitution. A new censorship movement is threatening that right, and the Obamas may be in the middle of the battle.
A Questionable Exit
Former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have a three-year deal with the platform for their podcast that began in June 2019. As it approaches renewal, rumors indicate that they are looking around for a new partner.
The Obamas have allegedly experienced issues with Spotify — namely, being unable to create content about specific topics. However, the split may also be due to controversy surrounding the “cancellation” of Joe Rogan and his outspoken podcast.
Rogan has been under constant fire for hosting people on his podcast who hold unique opinions and present alternative viewpoints concerning COVID-19. Two examples of guests who have caused considerable controversy are Dr. Robert Malone, one of the original scientists who worked on MRNA technology and who holds 10 patents on MRNA advances, and Dr. Peter McCullough, a cardiologist and trained epidemiologist.
While the reason for the split may not be completely about Rogan, some may see this as opposition. The Obamas bring in a lot of listeners from the Left, which could spell a monumental loss for Spotify. It may eventually cave into calls for censorship.
Silencing Joe Rogan
Joe Rogan’s problems began when Neil Young threatened to pull his music from Spotify if the platform refused to remove The Joe Rogan Experience from its offerings. Young and other detractors accuse Rogan of perpetuating lies and misinformation about COVID-19.
Social media companies have been censoring people for a while now if they say anything that goes against the chosen narrative. The control-hungry censors quickly call for the heads of anyone speaking out against mask and vaccine mandates or sharing alternative ideas about the virus, even if they’re quoting scientific studies. Rogan got caught in their crosshairs.
Rogan has presented a range of viewpoints on his podcast, including his experience with COVID, alternative treatments, and his opposition to mandates. While he’s made many enemies, Spotify continues to back him and has thus far refused to remove him from the airwaves. Still, there are signs the platform is starting to crack.
As of February 5, reports suggested that Spotify removed 113 individual episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience. However, a representative from the platform later told the Washington Post that Rogan himself made the decision to delete content, citing concerns about racially-charged language within the clips.
The audio files included controversial guests Gavin McInnes, Micheal Malice, Alex Jones, and Milo Yiannopoulos.
The platform also announced it would add a misinformation warning to episodes containing COVID discussions.
Rogan issued a statement about the controversy surrounding his show shortly after the news first broke. He vowed to provide more balance by inviting pro-vaccine advocates and have even more opposing views represented on his show.
The push to silence opinions began under the guise of protecting people from COVID-19 misinformation. However, it is quickly devolving into a blatant attempt to control the narrative on every topic. While Spotify seems to be standing its ground and allowing free speech to prevail, only time will tell where this battle will end up.
