(LibertySons.org) – At 81 years old, Dr. Anthony Fauci has worked in the federal government for 55 years. He’s been the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984. After such a long and accomplished career, most people would be thinking about retirement. But Fauci seems hesitant about walking away from his powerful position as the White House Chief Medical Advisor.
On March 20, while appearing on “This Week With George Stephanopoulos,” the doctor laughed when asked if he would be retiring soon. The host asked if the pandemic was to the point where he would step away, and Fauci said he wasn’t sure, as he chuckled.
.@GStephanopoulos: “Are we approaching the point where we are past the pandemic phase and you'll go get some rest?”
Dr. Fauci: “I'm not so sure. I want to make sure we're really out of this before I really seriously consider doing anything different.” https://t.co/AcoWdwYNTg pic.twitter.com/iRMDlyZXG4

The doctor explained he needs to ensure the threat is over before deciding. Then, he said, “We have a way to go,” warning of the potential for a new variant that could lead to more lockdowns and increased prevention strategies. Fauci then reminded that it is essential to stay vigilant.
His remarks were confusing since, on March 18, he talked about retiring at some point. On the podcast “Start Here With Brad Mielke,” Fauci said he was waiting for the pandemic to be over. He even said America might already be there. Fauci also explained he couldn’t continue working indefinitely and looked forward to more time with his family. Why is the doctor changing his tune now?
