DOJ Unveils New “Strike Force” to Target Guns

DOJ Unveils New

(LibertySons.org) – The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a plan to form five specialized strike forces aimed at reducing gun trafficking and violent crime back on June 22, 2021. Its goal was to reduce gun trafficking and violent crime by targeting well-known criminal networks in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington DC, and the San Francisco Bay area.

Details of the cooperative mission were ambitious. US attorneys would take the lead, working hand-in-hand with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and local law enforcement agencies. The ATF also planned to send agents to work with homicide units in targeted areas to track down guns confiscated during murder investigations.

All five task forces officially activated on July 22.

According to the DOJ, officials want to find out where so many illegal firearms are coming from. They hope to stop them at the source before they ever enter the United States in the first place, where they often end up in the hands of violent criminals.

The agency expects the long-term strategy to remain in place for some time.

The initiative is considered a part of the Violent Crime Reduction Initiative, Biden’s answer to soaring crime rates in the country. The president has been under intense pressure to fix the situation since taking office.

While it appears to be a good thing, using the words guns and strikeforce in the same sentence does not typically inspire Second Amendment advocates’ confidence.
